Germany Reaffirms Support for Ukraine Military Aid

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz reinforced his commitment to providing military aid to Ukraine, emphasizing that Kyiv must be equipped with the capability to conduct strikes within Russian territory.

During a joint press briefing with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Turku, Finland, Merz clarified his previous statements regarding Western nations lifting range limits on weaponry supplied to Ukraine.

“Ukraine has the right to use the weapons it receives beyond its own borders against military targets on Russian territory. In my view, this is necessary, because those who only fend off an attack on their own territory cannot defend themselves sufficiently,” he stated to reporters.

“Only those who are able to attack military bases located on the aggressor's territory can defend themselves. In this respect, Ukraine has long been rightly empowered to truly defend itself against Russian aggression,” he further noted.

Merz also highlighted that the decision by Western allies to remove restrictions on weapon range was made months ago. Countries that once imposed limits on the reach of arms sent to Ukraine have now lifted these constraints.
